On 22 May 2025, the UK Reproducibility Network (UKRN) convened a cross-sector stakeholder meeting to explore how the research ecosystem can accelerate effective sharing of data, methods, and research resources. Co-led by Harv Virk (Only Good Antibodies), Helen Clare (Jisc), and Emma Ganley (protocols.io), the meeting brought together UKRN stakeholders and Local Network Leads, and was hosted at the Springer Nature campus in London.

Neil Jacobs provided an overview of the UKRN’s evolving structure and the Open Research Programme, highlighting progress on long-term sustainability and mechanisms for meaningful stakeholder engagement.

The morning session – Publisher Perspectives and the Open Data Landscape – examined the current state of open data practice and the challenges in scaling effective sharing. Talks by Graham Smith (Springer Nature),  Iain Hrynaszkiewicz (PLOS) and Anna Korzeniowska (eLife) emphasised the interplay between policy, technology, and researcher expertise in building durable systems of openness.

The afternoon session – Funder and Researcher Perspectives on Methods and Resource Sharing – included talks by Nathalie Percie du Sert (NC3Rs) and UKRN Local Network Lead, Corinne Jola, (University of Abertay) who emphasised the value of sharing materials to understand heterogeneity in research outcomes.

In the final interactive session – Collaborative Planning and Reflections – stakeholders co-developed ideas for open science initiatives and funding schemes. There was a strong consensus on the need for integrated strategies that bring together infrastructure, communities, researcher support, and policy requirements to achieve lasting change in the sharing of methods and research resources.
