Open Code and Software – Train-the-Trainer course

Do you have experience with sharing your research code or software as part of your research workflow?
The UK Reproducibility Network, in partnership with the Medical Research Council, are offering free training to researchers who are keen to train their colleagues in in sharing their research code and software. This follows a successful pilot training scheme we ran in spring 2021 (on data sharing).
What sort of training will you get?
This training will enable you to tailor and deliver a workshop which would teach your colleagues how and why to share open code or software as a part of their everyday workflow. You will receive training in:
- Pedagogy skills for teaching workshops effectively
- Planning your workshop – brainstorming ideas and deciding what to cover from our workshop template and Primers
- Using our curated list of Open Research Resources
- Using our UKRN Workshop Builder Tool to create your own accessible workshop website
What’s expected from you?
You don’t have to be an expert in Open Research or in delivering workshops – you just need a bit of practical experience of sharing open code or software yourself, and some enthusiasm. We’ll help you with tailoring the workshop to cover your approach, and provide training on how to deliver it.
How will the training be delivered?
The course will take place over one full day (it may end early), and will be held online.

10:45 – Running and delivering a Workshop / Teaching skills (with BILT)
11:45 – Workshop Planning / using Resource Browser and demo website

13:45 – Workshop Builder Tool Introduction
14:15 – Workshop Building (Part 1)
15:15 – Short Break
15:30 – Workshop Building (Part 2) / Optional group discussion (further concerns, questions, etc.)
16:30 – Farewell
